Similarly, YBNL and EMPIRE’S Afrobeats superstar Asake continued his fine form as he also swept the Year-End Charts with the No. 1 song, No. 1 album, most-streamed song as well as being the No. 1 artiste.

I like to call Bolaji Kareem “curvy.”Bolaji always sees ahead of the curve and adopts the necessary strategy to excel.

As far as I know, his journey in entertainment started with CRBT on telco networks which at the time was the major supply of financial oxygen to Nigerian talents. Evolving from there, he moved into music distribution as an aggregator, and now spearheads the most successful international label in Nigeria.

Bolaji's work ethic is exemplary; he is hardworking, tenacious, and willing to go to great lengths to achieve his goals. Throughout my interactions with him, he has consistently demonstrated integrity and trustworthiness. Whether working independently or as part of a team, Bolaji consistently delivers results.

  1. BIZZLE OSIKOYA

image name

As one third of Nigerian Entertainment Company The Plug, Bizzle has consistently contributed to the advancement of Nigerian music notably through assist development.

Bizzle’s foremost quality is his ability to bring people together and this quality is pointed out by renowned entertainment executive Obi Asika who was there when Bizzle helped Nigerian artistes build a social media page on Myspace.

As part of The Plug, Bizzle has contributed not only artist development but also live events through the mainland block party franchise.

As a management company, The Plug has Bella Shumurda and Victony on its books with both artists enjoying a successful year.

“I have known Bizzle for maybe 16 years now, it was back in 06 0r 07 in the days of myspace and he was in London supporting artists when Sasha P, Africa’s number one female rapper who was signed to our label Storm Records first brought him to my attention, it turned out that he had somehow built relationships with several artists and was running their social media or myspace pages for free. At the time I could not work out what he was doing or why but we were just about to investigate Facebook and I asked him to move back to Lagos and join the team, at the storm office he shared a desk with my nephew Asa Asika, both of them were heavily mentored by Tola Odunsi who was running the label. He has come a long way and most importantly he seems to have stayed humble and even though he has been managing talent for over a decade he has never allowed himself to think he is the talent.

The thing about Bizzle then and now is the energy, that calm positive energy that makes talent comfortable, he has always had an ear for a hit record, he has always known who could be a super star and even though at a time he was running the social media for all the largest Nigerian artists of that era including Mohits, Naeto C, Storm artists and more as I watch him today I am just so proud of all he has achieved so young. After 16 years in the game he and Asa have earned OG status and with the deals they have done, the brand they have built and the moves made they continue to amaze me. I don’t see him as often as I would like but I am always happy to hear from him, when he asked me to comment on this recognition, my immediate thoughts were they still don’t know the power of Bizzle. That ever smiling man Is also a master strategist, a comms expert, the calmest guy in the room and loyal to the end. As he continues to get more and more recognition he knows he has a permanent fan in me, I'm happy and proud to be associated with him. Keep Shining Champion.”

  1. ASA ASIKA

image name

Described by former Senate President Bukola Saraki as one of Nigeria’s shining light, Asa Asika is one of Nigeria’s most accomplished music executives whose contributions to talent management and business has led to the cross continental success and growth of Nigerian megastar Davido.

In 2023, Davido’s fourth album ‘Timeless’ spent 10 weeks at the summit of the albums chart while also spurring a record nine top 10 hits.

Asa Asika is a creative and forward-looking young man, full of ideas and extremely serious-minded. He is among the tribe of Nigerian youths I like to call ‘Our Thinking Machines’.

He is indeed one of the young men who have continued to be the shining lights of our country despite the dark tunnel we have found ourselves in where the economy is not doing well and other aspects of life look gloomy. The performances of Asa and his colleagues in the creative industry, sports, and financial technology have continued to demonstrate that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

With Asa operating in his background, Davido has moved from one success to another. Look at the great global feat that the record ‘Timeless’ has recorded. And this quiet, good-looking young man also shares in the fame of Davido’s three Grammy nominations.

Incidentally, Asa and his company, The Plug, have continued to plug the lights for more talents to see the road to victory, success, and greatness. It is the reason that among the A-List clients of the Plug are also world-class performers like Victony, King Promise, Ckay, Asisat Oshola (Agbaballer) of Barcelona FC fame, and world athletics champion, Tobi Amusan. Birds of the same plumage congregate together.

I can see the determination with which Asa is working to enable Plug as a creative agency to put together an ecosystem of successful global brands as it works with Spotify, Diageo, Pepsi, and Pernod Ricard.

This honouree of the TURNTABLE POWER LIST OF 2023 has been one of the brains behind a major music festival called Mainland Block Party which has grown from Lagos and is now staged in the nation’s capital, Abuja and other cities. It is his way of spreading the gospel of good music, relaxation, discovering new talent and positive fun across the country.

I do not doubt that the organisers of this TurnTable 2023 POWER LIST honours have made a perfect choice in Asa Asika. Even the sky is no limit for this young man as he flies higher and higher to conquer more territories in the entertainment firmament.

Titilope's journey, akin to a symphony, began with resounding notes that echoed across the globe. 1. BOSE OGULU

image name

Bose Ogulu is described by Business mogul Tunde Folawiyo as the embodiment of African excellence.

She has deployed this spirit of excellence in propelling the career of Nigerian megastar Burna Boy whose seventh album ‘I Told Them’ delivered five top 10 entries on the TurnTable Top 100 and also accumulated 3 weeks at the top of the albums chart.

Mama Burna as I call her is a unique combination of talents. A mother, a teacher, a connector, and of course an accomplished executive. Her ability to put on the appropriate hat at the required time is the key component of her success. She does not brook any confusion about her role in any situation and puts her “game face” and best foot forward. Her passion to deliver pan African excellence, and not to compromise is legendary, and speaks to her antecedents as one of the earlier proponents of cross-border integration in Africa powered by her multi lingual skills. She abhors the idea that Africa and Africans are not worthy of the best in class and any such hint is dismissed in very short order.

A highly intelligent achiever, Mrs Ogulu is an extremely hard worker and it’s no surprise that she has been able and continues to thrive in a very difficult industry. I suspect the secret sauce is the emotional intelligence she brings to the fore in juggling all the priorities and running a tight spaceship.  We know there’s a lot more to come and deservedly so!
