Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Asake and Others Get Nominated for Grammys

The nomination list for the 2024 Grammys is out. This year, it is clear that the Grammy nominations brought well-deserved recognition to several Nigerian artists, marking a significant milestone for the country's music scene. This is the first time we have had a significant number of artists nominated for different projects at the same time.

Nigerian artists have garnered significant recognition in the 2024 Grammy nominations, showcasing the country's diverse musical talent on the global stage. Leading the pack is Burna Boy, securing an impressive four nominations, making him the most nominated Nigerian artist. His nods include Best Melodic Rap Performance for 'Sitting On Top of The World,' Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance, and Best African Music Performance for 'City Boys.'

Following closely is Davido, earning three Grammy nominations. His impressive nominations span across categories, including Best Global Music Performance for 'FEEL,' Best African Music Performance for 'UNAVAILABLE,' and Best Global Album for 'Timeless.'

Additional Nigerian representation in the nominations features Olamide and Asake, both recognized in the Best African Music Performance category for 'Amapiano,' along with Ayra Starr and her hit 'Rush.' South African singer Tyla was also nominated in the category for her hit single 'Water’. It is notable that with the exception of Burna Boy, the rest of the nominees in that category are first-time nominees. Additionally Tems secured a nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media with the song , 'Lift Me Up.’ 

These nominations underscore the global impact of Nigerian music, celebrating the achievements of these talented artists on an international scale. The presence of Nigerian artists in the Grammy nominations for 2023 reflects not only their individual achievements but also the growing influence of Afrobeat and Nigerian music on the global stage.
