Music consumption has changed drastically over the years. Gone are the days when we had to rush to the stores to buy albums. Now, we can simply scroll through our streaming apps and choose which album to listen to next.

To keep up with this change, TurnTable Charts introduced the leading albums chart in Nigeria, known as The TurnTable Top 50 or The Official Top 50 Albums Chart, on November 8, 2022. Since then, the chart has been instrumental in revealing the performance of albums in the Nigerian music market and shedding light on trends that were previously a matter of speculation.

As the saying goes, women lie, men lie, but numbers don’t. By providing statistical data, the TurnTable Top 50 has delivered a more comprehensive understanding of the aggregated singles chart, albums chart, and artist performance chart in Nigeria to both music fans and industry stakeholders.

As the TurnTable Top 50 approaches its second anniversary, it has also coincided with a surge in album releases within the industry. In 2023, Pulse NG recorded 336 projects, surpassing the 226 music projects released the previous year.

Now, TurnTable Charts is excited to expand the TurnTable Top 50 Albums Chart to Top 100 Albums chart. The expansion of the Top 100 Albums chart aims to provide more in-depth insights into album chart performances, celebrate successes, and highlight distinctive achievements.

The newly expanded chart compiles the top 100 albums streamed in Nigeria each week, using a point-per-play system that assigns different values based on the streaming platform. Paid streams have a value of one point per play, freemium streams are worth 0.75 points per play, ad-supported video streams from YouTube have a weight of 0.66 points per play, and ad-supported streams have a value of 0.5 points per play, mirroring the Top 50 Album chart.

The music industry is in a constant state of evolution, and the excitement lies in observing who embraces and adapts to these changes. Regardless of the shifts, one thing remains certain – the Turntable Top 100 will be there to document these transformations.
