Ghanaian Artiste Black Sherif Returns With New Single “Rebel Music”

Ghanaian award winning artiste and activist, Black Sherif, has released his new single “Rebel Music” out today via Blacko Management / EMPIRE. This is a Highlife infused record where he sings about his commitment to staying focused and original no matter what comes his way. Both the lyrics and the gridiron artwork reinforce that he is a sonic outlaw creating his own lane. “Rebel Music” is accompanied by a performance visual out today - watch here.

This new single arrives on the heels of latest release “Kilos Milos” which accentuates his continued triumph. Before release, Sherif previewed the record at Cups and Bass leading to a viral moment - culminated by a spontaneous performance in a Ghanaian club. Prior to that, he shared “Shut Up,” which currently has over 25M streams, “Zero,” featuring the world-renowned R&B pop artist Mabel which has nearly 15M streams, and “January 9th - a birthday gift to himself and fans. He’s been on a steady pace through the year with impressive releases that garnered attention from Rolling Stone, Complex, and Billboard to name a few.

Last year, Sherif shared his anticipated project Take Care Of Yourself Blacko, and extended his presence beyond music. He attended New York Fashion Week shows such as 2024 CFDA Finalists Tanner Fletcher and Willy Chavarria, attended the UN General Assembly - where he met with some of the world’s most powerful leaders, and he also was one of the key celebrity guests - alongside Idris Elba and Sheryl Lee Ralph - to accompany Vice President Kamala Harris in Ghana during her Africa tour. He won consecutive Best International Flow Awards at BET Hip-Hop Awards 2023 and 2022 and won Best Hip-Hop Act at Soundcity MVP Awards. 

Black Sherif solidified his place as one of Africa’s most powerful creative voices after the release of his debut album, The Villain I Never Was, which __broke streaming records and debuted at #5 Billboard U.S Afrobeats Chart. The lead single “Soja” debuted at #23 on the Billboard US Afrobeats chart and “Second Sermon” catapulted both him onto the map – listed at #16 on The Fader's __100 best songs of 2021. However, it was his breakout hit “Kwaku The Traveller” that went #1 on Shazam Global Charts and had NPR, The Fader, Complex UK and more calling it one of the best songs of 2022 which stamped him as a superstar in the making and propelling his catalog to over 200M career streams globally.
