Remember the saying, “Africa is a country”? For many years now, Africa has been viewed through that single lens based on how people interact with our art, culture, and music. On Ghanaian charts and DSPs, Nigerian music has long predominantly made its way there. However, new developments have begun and a number of Ghanaian artistes are breaking through and earning their spots on Nigeria’s Official Top 100 Albums chart) with their projects.

The latest milestone was achieved by Medikal, who earned his first entry on the official albums chart. His latest album ‘DISTURBANCE 2’ debuted at No. 52 in Nigeria. When Camidoh released the  ‘Sugarcane’ EP in 2022, it peaked at No. 26 with a record of 337,000 on-demand streams and approximately 225 album units sold.

Also in 2022, Black Sherif’s debut album ‘The Villain I Never Was’ peaked at No. 6. It comes as no surprise that his sophomore album, ‘Iron Boy’ (2025) did even better as it peaked at No. 3 on the Official Top 100 Albums chart— becoming the highest charting album by a Ghanaian act in Nigeria (also highest among all other African acts).

Olivetheboy’s ‘Avana’ — EP is another milestone project from Ghana, as it peaked at No. 8 on the official albums chart in Nigeria— one of the few projects by Ghanaian artistes to reach the top ten

Earlier this year, Lasmid & Tml Vibez’s ‘Sweet Songs 4 U’ became another landmark point for Ghanaian music in Nigeria; the joint album is the first joint project between a Ghanaian & Nigerian act to appear on the official albums chart:

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy appeared on the albums chart with ‘Voice of the Crown’ and ‘THE TORCHER’ (2025) respectively. ‘Voice of The Crown’ peaked at No. 63 recording 563,000 on-demand streams and 375.3 album units sold in the first week, while ‘THE TORCHER’ reached No. 47 on the chart and for its first week, 702,000 streams and 468 units sold.

This spotlight will be incomplete without mentioning the debut of King Promise’s third album ‘True To Self’ and Christian music group, Team Eternity Ghana’s ‘Testimony’ (2024). Both released in 2024, they peaked at No. 57 with and No. 97 respectively on the Official Top 100 Albums Chart in Nigeria.

Over three years of representation has shown the acceptance of Ghana Music in other parts (particularly, Nigeria). This further shows that as this becomes more frequent, we can look forward to having more Ghanaian projects on the singles, albums, streaming and radio charts in the near future.
