Overview of The Biggest Songs in the Country and the Artistes Behind Them

2025 is fast running to an end, and it has been quite a mix of versatility in the form of genres, music projects released, featured artistes, and so much more. Across street-hop, Afropop, and global collaborations, this year told a story of how Nigerians consumed music and most especially, which songs held the nation’s attention for the longest time. Multiple tracks have remained long-lasting on charts and upheld their spots to the very end. While each one showed its strength as different waves came and went, here are the top ten songs of 2025.

Fido’s “Joy is Coming” earns the title of the No. 1 song of 2025 in Nigeria. It joins Dj Neptune’s “Nobody” with Mr. Eazi & Joeboy (2020), Omah Lay’s “Godly” (2021), Kizz Daniel & Tekno’s “Buga (Lo Lo Lo)” [2022], Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” (2023) and Kizz Daniel & Davido’s “Twe Twe (Remix)” [2024] for the Year-End No. 1 Songs since TurnTable began tracking.

It is easy to forget the sheer dominance of “Joy Is Coming” at the start of the year but TurnTable always remembers; it topped the Official Nigeria Top 100 for six weeks and it spent a joint record 19 weeks in the top ten and logged. It is the only song in the last two years to reach No. 1 on all charts in the country, earning the elusive ‘clean sweep’ status. “Joy Is Coming” was the longest No. 1 song on the official singles chart in 2025 until Davido’s “With You” featuring Omah Lay matched it [more on “With You” later] – Rema’s “FUN” would later surpass both songs with 8 weeks at No. 1. 2025 felt like a year with a lot of promise and no song captured that air of positivity more than Fido’s biggest hit till date. After 52 weeks of tracking, “Joy Is Coming” tallied 87.2 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 1 on Streaming) and 1.56 billion radio airplay impressions (Year-End No. 4 on Radio). It started the year as the biggest hit in the country and it never left the top spot – not for a week.  image_upload The “With You” collaboration between Davido and Omah Lay which immediately became the standout song off the 5IVE album and released 36 weeks into the year takes the No. 2 spot on the Year-End chart. “With You” gained international traction and went as far as being nominated in the  Best African Music Performance category of the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. It tallied 61.003 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 5 on Streaming) and 1.83 billion radio airplay impressions (Year-End No. 2 on Radio).

Chart Facts: Davido has had a top 10 song on the Year-End chart in 2020 (“FEM” at No. 2), 2022 (“Baddest Boy” with Skiibii at No. 8), 2023 (“FEEL” at No. 5 and “UNAVAILABLE” at No. 8), 2024 (“Twe Twe” with Kizz Daniel at No. 1 and “Ogechi (Remix)” at No. 6) & 2025 (“With You” at No. 2 and “Funds” at No. 6). The artiste failed to have a top ten song on the Year-End Top Songs Chart only in 2021 – he had “FOR YOU” with Teni at No. 11, “High” with Adekunle Gold at No. 12 and “The Best” at No. 14 that year.

Shallipopi’s “Laho” with Burna Boy which was ranked the biggest song in the country on the Mid-Year Charts. It ends the year by moving a rank higher. “Laho II” is credited on the Year-End Charts as it accounts for the largest share of the total chart points across all versions of the viral song. “Laho” tallied 62.1 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 4 on Streaming) and 1.46 billion airplay impressions (Year-End No. 4 on Radio).

At No. 4 is Wizkid’s  “Kese (Dance)”, released in late November 2024 – it has gone on to become the artiste’s most successful single in Nigeria since TurnTable began tracking in 2020. “Kese (Dance)” spent three weeks at No. 1 in Nigeria (Wizkid’s longest No. 1 single as a lead artiste). In total for 2025, it tallied 47.7 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 9 on Streaming) and 1.87 billion radio impressions (Year-End No. 1 on Radio).  image_upload Taking the No. 5 spot is FOLA’s “who does that?” featuring Bella Shmurda. FOLA, one of the year’s biggest breakout stories, scores his biggest entry on the Year-End Top Songs Chart with this collaboration. It was released as part of his debut EP ‘what a feeling’ which peaked at No. 4 on the Official Top 100 Albums Chart. It peaked at No. 2 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 chart and remains FOLA’s joint-highest chart entry till date. “who does that?” tallied 62.2 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 3 on Streaming) and 748.3 million in radio airplay (Year-End No. 30 on Radio).

The song totals 51.95 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 6 on Streaming) and 1.089 billion in radio reach (Year-End No. 7 on Radio)

Heartthrob anthem “Arike” by another breakout story of 2025, Kunmie ends the year as the seventh biggest song. ODUMODUBLVCK is the first rapper to earn multiple top ten entries on the Year-End Top Songs chart,    image_upload In November 2024, Rema shared a snippet that shocked the world. The snippet contained a sample of a Sade classic and it immediately went viral. He went on to drop the song in February 2025 and it debuted at No. 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 – it spent two weeks at No. 1 on the chart. “Baby (Is It A Crime)” ranks at No. 9 on the 2025 Year-End Top Songs Chart with 36.04 million on-demand streams (Year-End No. 23 on Streaming) and 1.23 billion radio airplay impressions (Year-End No. 5 on radio)..

And what is a year without a Seyi Vibez’s song topping the charts? Closing out the top ten songs of the year list is Seyi Vibez’s “SHAOLIN”, a part of the artiste’s first release after a hiatus. “SHAOLIN” stormed the chart upon release, debuting at No. 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 and logging two weeks at the summit of the official singles chart in Nigeria. Last year, Seyi Vibez ended the year as the most-streamed artiste and No. 2 overall.
