On the Official Nigeria Top 100, “Paparazzi” debuted and peaked at No. 3, in its very first week on the chart. This makes a new record for Shoday, as it is his highest-charting song so far.
Shoday’s musical journey has been underway for quite some years; however, 2024 was a turning point, as he gained full-blown recognition that extended into 2025. From Shoday’s discography, nine songs had made it to the top 40 on the singles chart with four of those songs in the top 20 and two in the top 5. Also, Shoday was featured on music duo, TxC’s popular song, “Nakupenda” with Davido, Scotts Maphuma, Zlatan, and AI Xapo, which is currently No. 5 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 chart, having peaked at No. 4, and has spent four weeks on the chart. The song has tallied over 7.5 million on-demand streams in Nigeria since release, making it eligible for Gold Certification in Nigeria.
Shoday getting his highest charting song with “Paparazzi” featuring FOLA has earned his manager, Sodiq Olamide Tonade, popularly referred to as Maybreed, the executive of the week title. Maybreed is TurnTable’s first Executive of the Week for the Year 2026. He is the co-founder of record label, Dangbana Republik, and also owns the management company, Canny Consults.
In this exclusive interview with TurnTable, Maybreed speaks on his career, how he operates his roles in the music industry, the process of signing and working with Shoday, as well as Shoday’s forthcoming debut album project, ‘Hybrid’.
TTC: For those encountering you for the first time, how would you introduce yourself and what drew you into the music business?
Maybreed: Born Sodiq Olamide Tonade, people know me as Maybreed. For people just encountering me, I introduce myself as Bella Shmurda’s friend and Shoday’s Manager. Whenever I’m asked how I find myself in the music business space, I simply tell them it was just me and my friend having fun. Then, it turned into something serious and I’m still having fun while learning and growing at the same time doing the business.
TTC: You co-own Dangbana Republik and are also the founder of creative consultancy firm Canny Consults. How did your journey in the music business evolve to this point?
Maybreed: As I mentioned, I'm just having fun, learning, and growing while at it. Dangbana Republik was a fan page I was managing and posting exclusives about Bella Shmurda on. Things got serious when we needed to start putting out songs under an imprint. While at a meeting meant to discuss Bella Shmurda’s second album project, ‘High Tension 2.0’, I suggested we start putting out music as Dangbana Republik since it was already a movement. We got it registered as a Label/Company.
As for Canny Consults, it has been in existence before Dangbana Republik. Canny Consults was originally a distribution company I co-founded with another friend of mine, Rike. The business was for distributing music for different artistes. Canny Consults distributed “Cash App”, “Upgrade”, and a couple of other Songs. To mention a few, Canny Consults distributed for Seyi Vibez during his early stages and Llona when he was known as Tooclassiq at the time. Along the line, Canny Consults decided to focus solely on management.
TTC: 2025 marked a major turning point in Shoday’s career. How did you discover him and at what stage did the conversation around management or signing begin?
Maybreed: I was a Shoday fan for a long time. I fell in love with one of his songs, “Hadiza”. I wanted to get Bella Shmurda to jump on the particular song but that didn’t happen. Shoday dropped “Caution” the same year and man went viral. Life after caution, a friend of mine, named Dee Y, brought Shoday to me that he’d want me to start working with him.
To be honest, I was initially skeptical because I was concentrating on Bella, but Shoday was ready for me to work with him. We started working in 2023, sourced funding, and dropped our first project ‘Brkfst EP’ in the first quarter of 2024. All those times, we worked on pure vibes and there was no contract. I didn’t sign an official contract with Shoday until December 2024.
TTC: You are TurnTable’s first Executive of the Week for 2026 following Shoday’s collaboration with FOLA, which debuted at No. 3 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 Chart. Did you anticipate this level of success ahead of the release?
Maybreed: I’m honoured to be the first Executive of the year for 2026, and a big shoutout to TTC for what y’all do! Talking about the release, I’d say we knew what that record would do and that’s why we were very confident releasing it on the second day of the year. I mean, it’s Shoday and FOLA. They are the talk of the whole country and beyond, so yes, I’d say we predicted and anticipated it. It’s one of those records you know will make an instant hit from the first day of recording.
TTC: Shoday’s feature on the viral “Nakupenda”, which is currently sitting at No. 5 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 chart, has become one of his biggest moments yet. How did that collaboration come together and would you say this has expanded his audience?
Maybreed: That particular record had been recorded since February 2025. Shoday wrote 80% of that song and it was originally a TXC, Al Xapo, and Shoday song. Big shout out to Tunde Balogun, that’s LVRN CEO, my leader and friend right there. He texted me and said the girls (TxC) are in Lagos and would love Shoday to do something with them. We recorded “Welele” and “Nakupenda” on the same day. Fast forward to months later, we got another call that Davido wanted to jump on the song. We pulled up at Zlatan’s studio where Baddest was meant to record. He did his thing and trust Big Zee to not dull. Man added his own spice and boom!!! Nakupenda is the biggest song in the country!
TTC: Beyond managing Shoday, FOLA is also signed to your label. How do you balance multiple roles such as the management, label operations, and working with other artistes?
Maybreed: FOLA has his own management, all doing the magic FOLA. Shout out to Big Melvin! As for me working with other artiste, I’ve built a strong and capable team around myself and Canny Consults and they make the magic happen. Special Shoutout to Lammy, that woman right there was sent to make my life easier! That’s Miss Canny Consults right there lol.
TTC: TikTok has played a significant role in amplifying Shoday’s music. Was this a deliberate part of your strategy or did the momentum grow organically?
Maybreed: TikTok is always a big player in our rollout. We discovered what it could do, we banked on it, and the organic momentum followed. So, I’d say it is a deliberate move.
TTC: As we move deeper into 2026, what should audiences expect next from Shoday in terms of music, collaborations, or career milestones?
Maybreed: Shoday’s debut album drops this year. It is called ‘Hybrid’. The fans will be seeing Shoday in a different light. There are a couple of collaborations too! Just watch this space!
Expect the same energy from FOLA, Bella Shmurda, and any artiste that would be affiliated with Maybreed or Canny Consults.
