FolaPonDis: The Revelation That Became a Force
When we first heard “who does that” in 2024, there was an immediate feeling that FOLA was different. The record shook the country, introducing an artiste whose voice, melodies and songwriting carried the kind of freshness that makes you stop in your tracks. But breakout moments are easy to romanticise in hindsight, what happened after the discovery was more impressive, FOLA has gone from being one of the most exciting new names in Nigerian music to one of its biggest artistes through commercial success, consistency and undeniable momentum. Three songs have reached No. 1 for FOLA in 2026. “Paparazzi” has been the biggest statement. The song peaked at No. 1 and has spent 24 weeks on the chart, accumulating 33.84 million streams and earning a 2x Platinum certification. Then, “treat u right” which debuted at No. 1 and spent four weeks on the chart. With 10 million streams and a Gold certification. “B4 B4” completes the hat trick, debuting at No. 1, giving FOLA three chart-topping records in 2026, and has already accumulated 6.12 million streams in its first week, earning a Silver certification.
Even beyond his No. 1 records, his catalogue has continued to perform. “fine ting (fine $hit)” debuted and peaked at No. 8, spending 15 weeks on the chart while accumulating 11.74 million streams and earning Gold certification. His project, ‘Catharsis’ currently ranks as the ninth most-streamed album released since 2020, with more than 355 million streams and a 4x Platinum certification. Last year, FOLA ranked as the sixth-biggest artiste . This year, he already sits at No. 3. That leap is the clearest indication of how dramatically his position has changed in such a short period, growing from the revelation of 2025 into an artiste capable of commanding the charts and competing among the biggest names in the country.
The run of singles this year has also opened up a conversation of a possible album release and even more glaring when you consider the mysterious “9” that has repeatedly appeared in his captions. Even though there has been no definitive explanation for what the number means, its recurrence has naturally invited speculation. Could it be a date? A tracklist length? A title? No matter which it may be, the possibility of a new album this year feels particularly exciting because of where FOLA currently stands. If “9” is indeed a clue, then FOLA may be preparing to give us the next chapter of an already intriguing story and we are here for it!
