Dewik is Expanding the Footprints of Nigerian Modern DJs' Through Touring
The Nigerian DJ landscape has expanded considerably in recent years. DJs are no longer confined to clubs or positioned solely between performances. They are becoming curators, headliners, and, increasingly, touring acts with audiences of their own. Dewik’s trajectory offers a clear example of this shift.
Hailing from Port Harcourt, Dewik has steadily expanded his footprint across some of Nigeria’s biggest music and culture events. Over the past year, his run has included Palmwine Festival, Bole Festival, ISL Fest, Wizkid’s Lagos concert, LunguBoy Party, Island Block Party and Mainland Block Party, alongside his residency at Urban Radio and appearances at Johnnie’s District. He was the official Dj for the Black Market Guinness World Record, He has also developed Party Like It’s 99, his own platform for bringing his sound and audience together.
But his university circuit may be the clearest indication of the scale he is building. After touring 10 Nigerian universities in 2023, Dewik is currently serving as the official tour DJ for the Soundcity On Tour 2026 , which is taking him across 20 tertiary institutions including Pan-Atlantic University, University of Port Harcourt, Olabisi Onabanjo University, University of Lagos, Federal College of Education Akoka, Yaba College of Technology, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Uyo, Niger Delta University, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Federal University Ndufu-Alike, University of Calabar and University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
With the tour still ongoing, that movement places him in direct contact with one of the country’s most important music audiences while extending his reach beyond the conventional club and festival circuit.
It is a trajectory that reflects the changing economics and culture around DJing in Nigeria. As live music becomes an increasingly important part of how audiences experience Afrobeats, DJs are gaining more room to build identities beyond the decks.
Dewik’s inclusion in NotJustOk’s list of DJs to watch and his Galaxy Music Awards nomination for Male DJ of the Year provide recognition, but the more telling measure of what he is building is this expansion.
