Asake is the first artiste to hold the top two songs in a week in Nigeria since Omah Lay

The year is 2022 by the calendar, but the charts are screaming Asake’s name. Gaining mainstream success with “Omo Ope,” and following it up with his self-titled EP, Ololade

that spurned “Sungba” and “Trabaye”, continuing his fine run with Palazzo with DJ Spinall, and then currently topping the Top 100 with his effort on Fireboy DML’s “Bandana,” Asake has been ever-present on the charts this year.

It’s no surprise that he is not only the artiste with the most #1 songs in Nigeria in 2022; “Omo Ope,” “Sungba,” “PBUY” all reached No. 1 on the defunct TurnTable Top 50 while is “Bandana” No. 1 on this week’s Nigeria Top 100.

This week, he made history as the first artiste to hold the top two songs in the country in a week – a feat that was last achieved by Omah Lay in the last two weeks of 2020 and the first six weeks of 2021 during another astonishing run by an artiste in their mainstream debut year. Davido was the first artiste to achieve this feat, having held the top four positions on the Top 50 during the debut week of A Better Time.

We can only imagine that Asake’s incredible will continue as his latest teaser, a song titled “Terminator” has been met with massive hysteria.
