Omah Lay is the hottest artiste in Nigeria
It is common knowledge that Omah Lay is the hottest artiste in Nigeria at the moment with both the biggest album and the biggest single. But what many don’t know is that he is even more dominant this week.
‘Bad Influence’ has led the chart for four consecutive weeks including this week’s Top Streaming Chart. TurnTable Top Streaming Chart combines the weekly numbers of three of the four major streaming platforms in Nigeria – Audiomack, YouTube and Boomplay. The first issue of the chart launched on July 14, 2020 with Mayorkun’s ‘Betty Butter’ debuting at the top with 2.24 million equivalent streams.
Omah Lay’s ‘Bad Influence’ moved to the top on the chart dated July 21, 2020 with 1.55 million equivalent streams; with 1.12 equivalent streams from Audiomack, 338,000 streams from Boomplay and 55,000 views from YouTube. On the chart dated July 29, 2020, the song remained at the top with 1.35 million equivalent streams; it dropped 12.90% week-over-week on the chart. For the chart dated August, 4, 2020, ‘Bad Influence’ recorded 1.31 equivalent streams, again recording less streams that previous week but this time, at a lesser percentage, 2.96%.
‘Bad Influence’ recorded 1.38 equivalent streams to stay at No. 1 for a record-extending fourth week on the chart dated August 11, 2020; 1.04 million equivalent streams on Audiomack (the only Nigerian song to hit a million stream during the tracking week), 300,000 streams on Boomplay, and 49,400 views on YouTube.
What this means is that ‘Bad Influence’ was more popular on freemium streaming services this week than it was three week ago. This feat is even more incredible considering the number of songs released by A-list artistes in the recent weeks. Also, the song recently became the most-streamed Nigerian song ever on Audiomack and it is projected to record at least 1.01 million equivalent on Audiomack for the next tracking week.
As for the No. 2 on Top Streaming Chart, you have another song by Omah Lay, ‘You.’ It is the only other song to record over 1 million equivalent streams across all three platforms on this week’s chart. The dominance of Omah Lay extends to the lower part of Top Streaming Chart; ‘Do Not Disturb’ is at No. 42 after peaking at No. 34 on the chart dated July 21, 2020 while ‘Hello Brother’ is at No. 47 after peaking at No. 39. on the first issue of the chart. Then there is little matter of ‘Lo Lo’ and ‘Damn’ in the top ten.
It is important to note that ‘Bad Influence’ doesn’t have an official video yet – one of the reasons why it keeps increasing on audio-demand streaming service but not as much on on-demand video streaming service like YouTube. The next few weeks brings bigger test for ‘Bad Influence’ at No. 1 but no one would be surprised to see the song remain at No. 1 in four weeks. That is how dominant Omah Lay is on streaming services.
