The New Music Friday of May 12, 2023 was a special one that saw the release of new music by several established artistes. The artistes that released music on that Friday have combined for fifteen No. 1 songs and over 50 top ten entries on the singles chart in Nigeria (the defunct TurnTable Top 50 and the Official Nigeria Top 100).

Chart rankings on the Official Nigeria Top 100 are based on weighted formula incorporating audio and video streams within Nigeria, as well as airplay on radio and satellite TV in the country. It is the first and only standard music chart in Nigeria, providing comprehensive music activity including the official No. 1 song in Nigeria

Kizz Daniel’s “Shu-Peru” earns the biggest first week debut of the lot thanks to a 2.13 million on-demand streams (No. 4 on streaming) and 61.6 million in radio reach (No. 8 on radio). This meant that all four of Kizz Daniel’s last singles have debuted or peaked in the top 2 region of the singles chart in Nigeria.

BNXN’s “Pray” followed at No. 4 with 2.31 million on-demand streams (No. 1 on streaming) and 50.2 million in radio reach (No. 12 on radio) during the tracking week of May 12 – 18 [it is important to note that the song was released on May 11, which meant that its first day numbers counted towards the tracking week of May 5 - 11]

“Shu-Peru” and “PRAY” are the milestone tenth top 10 entry for both artistes in Nigeria.

Lil Durk’s “All My Life” is the biggest surprise on the charts this week. Lil Durk’s prominence in Nigeria continues to grow. The artiste previously had a top 50 entry with “What Happened to Virgil” earlier this year – but the debut of “All My Life” blows that away.

The No. 11-start of “All My Life” is the biggest debut and peak for a song by a non-African artiste. It marks the first top 20 entry for both Lil Durk and J. Cole in Nigeria. It tallied 2.29 million on-demand streams (No. 2 on streaming) and 19.8 million in radio reach (No. 52 on radio) in its first week.

“NSV” by Bella Shmurda & Tiwa Savage debuts at No. 23 with 960,000 streams (No. 22 on streaming) and 28.2 million in radio reach (No. 32 on radio).

Teni’s “No Days Off” launches at No. 26 while Ruger’s “Jonzing Boy” debuts at No. 28.

Blaqbonez’s “Cinderella Girl” with Ludacris starts at No. 33 while Boy Spyce’s “Relationship” debuts at No. 35. Dj Tunez’s “Blessings” with Wizkid & Gimba makes its chart debut at No. 42 – Gimba has another entry at No. 56 with The Sarz Academy produced “Jam One Kele.”

Naira Marley’s “Body” begins at No. 63 while the duo of Tyla and Ayra Starr’s “Girl Next Door” launches at No. 73. Smada’s “Papilo” with Odumodublvck gives the former his first singles chart appearance at No. 86.
