"The Sarz Academy Presents: Memories that Last Forever 2” is an album that is the result of the efforts of the Sarz Academy to bring unknown talents to the limelight in the music industry. The tracks on the album was handpicked and worked on by a talented group of producers, writers and artistes.

In total, eight producers and seven artistes were picked from a pool of applications with a whopping 11,000 applicants to learn and cultivate their musical skills with MTLF 2 being the result of that endeavour.

The album features 7 artistes along with Sarz namely; ‘Perfext’, ‘Fxrtune’, ‘Gimba’, ‘Charmaine LA’ ‘Millymay_pod’ ‘Syntiat’, and ‘Pjstar’ and comprises of 15 tracks. They are all generally unknown names so knowing that, it was particularly hard to expect anything from the album other than the usual generic afro-RnB sounds.

The album is a fusion of cool, refined afro fusion sounds that acts as a testament to why the chosen artists did deserve to be chosen for their spot. The album boasts mostly of Nigerian alté songs which are mixed with other diverse sounds creating a symphony that is perfect to the ears. A favourite song on the album is ‘Good to Me’, because of the fusion of EDM and Amapiano fusion which shows Sarz’s genius in weaving sounds together.

We came away from the album with three major takeaways;

  1. Raw Talent is the best Talent: The album is filled with features with newbie artistes who were handpicked from a large pool of applications for a chance at learning and honing their skills. These artistes might otherwise not get any chance at making names for themselves if they hadn’t gotten picked, but the tracks on the album shows that they deserve their spots. The lack of experience was made up for by Sarz’s presence on the album but otherwise, the new guys are guys to watch out for in the next few years.
  2. Nigerian Alte is here to stay: the tracks on the album were mostly in the alte genre, a genre that is fast catching up in the Nigerian Music Scene. A lot of new artistes are venturing into the previously pretty much unknown genre and are making waves while converting a lot of Nigerian listeners into fans. Tracks on this album, like ‘Ready’ ft Pj Star and Fxrtune, ‘More’ ft Perfext, and ‘Sad Love’ ft Syntiat and Millymay_pod are mostly tracks that fit under the alte genre.
  3. Let the young talents shine: while all the artistes on the album are students of Sarz Academy, in partnership with United Masters, a major thing to note is the artistic independence they were given while working on the album, letting the artistes learn first-hand what is involved in the music production process. With songs like ‘Only Man’ ft Gimba and ‘Good to Me’ ft Perfext and Gimba where you catch a small glimpse of Sarz but the song is mostly Gimba and Perfext.

It also puts into perspective Sarz’s long experience in the music industry with how uniquely he was able to mesh his type of music together with the other artistes on the tracks, creating a cohesive effect. One thing that sticks out is how the songs on the album have great replay value. It’s something you can listen to over and over again without tiring of the music. The refinedness of the beats can of course be attributed to Sarz, but it is also clear that the artistes have immense talent. Overall, the album is really good and one of the best this year.
