There are artistes who build their own worlds and Victony has spent a better part of his career doing exactly that. Each Victony era has a distinct concept from the last. The branding changes depending on the project and its theme. From the days of “Ina the Benz” to big records like “Tiny Apartment”, “Holy Father”, “OHEMA”, “Soweto”, the ‘Saturn’ and ‘Outlaw’ EPs, the debut album ‘Stubborn’ and its deluxe, ‘Very Stubborn’, that was just the tip of the iceberg.
In 2026, Victony didn’t begin the year with a rush, instead, he opted for a measured start, releasing his very first solo release halfway through the year. The gamble indeed paid off as “FRE$H” debuted inside the Top 10 of the Official Nigeria Top 100, becoming Victony's first solo Top 10 entry since 2024. The single eventually peaked at No. 8 and has now spent seven weeks on the chart. That set things in tune for “SLICK”. Victony took his time building the anticipation with the track, starting with a visual snippet as the initial teaser on his social media pages. That marinated for a while until the record dropped on a Wednesday in July.
After debuting at No. 73 with only two days of tracking, "SLICK" exploded the following week to No. 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 chart, powered by 3.1 million on-demand streams and over 60 million radio impressions. This week, “SLICK” continues its No. 1 reign for the second consecutive week, with 2.44 million on-demand streams (No. 2 on streaming) and 62.8 million in radio airplay impressions (No. 5 on radio). While its compact runtime may have encouraged the repeated listens, it’s almost beside the point as the song itself is a hit with solid replay value.
Victony’s first No. 1 single arrives after years of growth and his journey so far has proven more milestones. His debut album, ‘Stubborn,’ peaked at No. 2 on the Official Top 100 Albums chart, spent 24 weeks on the chart, generated over 31 million on-demand streams, earned a 2X Platinum certification, and accumulated more than 980 million radio impressions, alongside 33 career chart entries, 13 Top 10 hits, and now his first No. 1 single.
As fans continue replaying the barely two-minute “SLICK” and speculating about what comes next, it is becoming increasingly clear that the rapper who first introduced himself through hip-hop has evolved into one of Nigerian music's most unpredictable and compelling melodic voices. If this is how slow burn ends, the next chapter might just be more exciting than the last.
