THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE, NATIVE SOUND SYSTEM DEBUT COMPILATION ALBUM, NATIVEWORLD IS HERE. 

First there were the parties. Then the shows, the tours, the award-winning cultural platform and magazine, and then Nigeria’s biggest music festival NATIVELAND. Now, NATIVE Networks presents NATIVE Sound System, the DJ collective and production supergroup from the most preeminent name in West African music and culture.

Starting out as the DJ duo of Addy and Sholz, NATIVE Sound System is first known for its continued pilgrimage around the world spreading the gospel of breaking sounds from our home state, country, and continent. With iconic sets across Boiler Room or Afronation, and shows with the likes of Rema, Naira Marley, Odunsi (The Engine), the NATIVE Sound System has quickly grown into a community of synergetic musical talent, identifying, championing and now producing sounds from this side to the world watching.

Now, the NATIVE Sound System have released their debut compilation album, NATIVEWORLD executively produced by the Monster Boys (GMK and Genio Bambino), Shola “Sholz” Fagbemi and Seni “Chubbz” Saraki. Featuring some of  Africa’s brightest stars including Ayra Starr, BOJ, Cruel Santino, Odunsi (The Engine), Obongjayar, Teezee, Deto Black and more, the album arrives today [EMBARGOED TILL AUGUST 18TH] packed with tales and stories of our home, according to the climatic and cultural seasons that make up a typical year in Lagos, Nigeria. 

With notable standouts such as “Pressure” featuring Lady Donli and Alpha P (Universal Nigeria) and produced by Genio and Le Mav, NATIVEWORLD ushers in a new era for one of the brightest minds in the Nigerian creative industry. Shola Fagbemi,  executive producer and co-founder of NATIVE Sound System, shares that:

 “I think that there have been challenges but you know the actual recording of the album was nice. What grinded my gears was the process of putting out the album, which was stressful because we had to deal with the industry side of things. 

Generally it’s been nice to work with so many different artists and producers and I’ve learned and grown a lot in the process. Even as a producer, I never used to make Afrobeats but I’ve got some Afrobeats records on the album. It’s been a great learning experience, I feel blessed to have been a part of it. Just need to get better at the industry side of things.”

Teni “Teezee” Zacchaueus, an artist, lead A&R on the project and co-founder of the NATIVE Networks shares that: “It’s been a really dope experience for me, sitting on the side of the artist and the executive. This isn’t the first time I’d be in this position but it’s always a really interesting process to be able to balance both. 

To connect with different artists from different worlds and bring them into our world, Nativeworld, has been beautiful to see, creating what I would call a new sound. The sound is fresh, unexpected and never been heard before and I’m so excited to see how the album  is received. This has been a growing process and we’re gonna make this thing we created in our little home a global phenomenon.”
